History of Kalinchowk Temple

Kalinchowk temple is named after goddess Kali who is the virtue of power and destruction. It is believed that Goddess Kali went on the top of Kalinchowk Hill on Sumeru Parvat for medication. During her meditation, evil power tried to win over her. Then, the war took place between the evils and goddess Kali. Lord Shiva used his Trishul during the war, and holy water originated from the dry land of Kalinchowk, which gave power to the lion of Kali. Hence, the evils were killed.

After the evils were killed, the dead bodies of the evils were decayed in the Kuri village. The village turned sticky and got the name Kuri which means shame. A water pond which is located at the top of Kalinchowk, People believe to be pure after taking a bath in the pond.

As per the religious book of Durga Puran, it is said that Kalinchowk is the place where the goddess Devi had the downfall of the right arm. Hence, many Hindu people come to worship in the temple. Also, people believe in having their wishes fulfilled after they worship in the Kalinchowk temple.

You can visit the Kalinchowk temple any time of the year. However, the best time to visit the temple solely depends on the purpose of visiting it. If you are a trek lover and want a small hike to Kalinchowk, the weather of summer and autumn is perfect as the weather is moderate.

However, if you are interested in snow and other fun-filled activities, the best time is during the winter season in the months of December, January, and February. During this time, snow is found everywhere. As it is the peak season for Kalinchowk’s visit, the place is crowded. Also, accommodation price is a little high at this time compared to other seasons.
